Why Aluminium Windows

Aluminium has been the window frame of choice for New Zealand homes since the 1970s, and for good reasons. It is strong enough to carry big panes of double glazing in a slim frame, so you get more glass and more light for the same opening. It does not rot, swell, warp or need painting, and a powder coated finish shrugs off Auckland's sun, salt and rain with nothing more than a wash every few months. In the hands of a fabricator who measures properly, it is also precise: frames come out of our factory square and true, so sashes close cleanly and seals do the job they are designed for.

Aluminium does conduct heat, and for anyone who wants more insulation in the frame we offer thermally broken frames across the range: a polyamide strip separates the inside and outside halves of the frame so less heat passes through the metal. Our standard joinery is still our biggest seller, and a lot of people decide a thermal break is more than they need. Read more on the thermally broken joinery page.

What Comes With Every Window

  • Glazing to suit. Every NuStyle window has the option of double or single glazing, and of Low E, laminated safety, tinted or obscure glass from Metro Performance Glass. See the glass page for the choices.
  • Dulux powder coating. The full Dulux Duralloy +Plus Solid Range as standard colours, with colours from other ranges available on request, plus anodised finishes in bronze, silver, champagne and black. Browse the colour range.
  • Quality hardware. Stays and handles come with every window, with restrictor stays that limit the opening to 100 mm as an optional extra where and when required. See the hardware page.
  • OMEGA systems. As an authorised OMEGA fabricator we build on a proven New Zealand window system with product information published for building consent.
  • Our 5-year guarantee on the product and the installation.

New Build or Replacement

For a new home or extension, send us the plans and we will price the full window and door schedule for free, then manufacture to your builder's programme. See windows and doors for new builds. For an existing house, our installers remove the old joinery, fit the new window into the same opening, flash and finish it, and leave the room tidy. That whole process is described on the window replacement page.

Window performance in New Zealand is tested and certified against the industry's standards, and NuStyle is a member of the Window and Glass Association of New Zealand, the body that sets them.

Aluminium Window Questions

Which window type is best for ventilation?

Awning windows. Hinged at the top, they can stay open in the rain without letting water in, and a security stay lets you leave them ajar overnight. Sliding windows open wider but need to be shut when it rains.

Can you match the colour of the windows on the rest of the house?

Usually. We make to measure, so sizes are not a problem, and the Dulux range covers the common older joinery colours. Bring us a photo or we will look at the existing windows during the measure. Over time an older powder coat fades, so a brand-new window in the same colour can look slightly fresher at first. What we match is the colour: the frame profile itself differs from one joinery company to the next, so a new window is never an exact copy of another maker's extrusion.

How long do aluminium windows last?

Decades. The frame does not rot or corrode in normal use, and the finish lasts with regular washing. The parts that wear are the seals and hardware, which we can service. Our maintenance guide explains how to look after the powder coat.

Do you do commercial windows?

Yes. Shopfronts, commercial doors and windows, and multi-unit developments. See the commercial page.
