The Hardware We Fit

Most of our hardware comes from OMEGA's Edge3 range, made to go with the OMEGA window and door systems we fabricate, so every fastener and lever fits the profile it was designed for. Two of the locks we fit most come from New Zealand lock makers: the Yale Aria Endeavour on our sliding doors and the Doric DN551 on our sliding windows. The Edge3 range is pictured as OMEGA makes it, in its plain mill finish. Yours comes in black or colour matched to the frames, and we go through the choices with you at the measure.

  • OMEGA Edge3 single tongue window fastener: a slim square-section lever with one locking tongue beneath it
OMEGA Edge3Single Tongue Window FastenerThe latch on awning and casement windows.
  • OMEGA Edge3 double tongue window fastener: a square-section lever with two locking tongues beneath it
OMEGA Edge3Double Tongue Window FastenerThe latch on awning and casement windows, with two tongues.
  • Doric DN551 flush pull window lock: a slim silver pull plate with a recessed finger grip, the lock body behind it and the latch keeper beside it
DoricDN551 Flush Pull Window LockThe lock on our sliding windows: a slim pull set flush in the sash that latches itself when the window shuts.
  • Yale Aria Endeavour sliding door lock in matt black: the inside D handle with its snib and two locking hooks, the outside slim pull seen from the back, and a brass key
YaleAria Endeavour Sliding Door LockThe lock on most of the sliding doors we make: a D handle with a snib inside, and a slim pull with a 5-pin key cylinder outside.
  • OMEGA Edge3 sliding door pull handle set: two long pulls with the mortice lock, cylinder and key laid out beneath them
OMEGA Edge3Sliding Door Pull HandleThe Edge handle on sliding and stacker doors, with its mortice lock.
  • OMEGA Edge3 bifold lever: a tall curved lever on a square spindle
OMEGA Edge3Bifold LeverThe latch on bifold doors.
  • OMEGA Edge3 bifold escutcheon: the two cylinder cover plates, one turned to show its back
OMEGA Edge3Bifold EscutcheonThe cover plates over the cylinder on a bifold door.
  • OMEGA Edge3 hinged door lever set: two long backplates with a straight lever and a euro cylinder cut-out

Window Stays and Restrictors

Every awning and casement window comes with its stays and handles. The sash is held open by a friction stay, which lets it sit at any angle you leave it, and closed by the window fastener. Restrictor stays are an optional extra, fitted where and when required:

  • Safety Stay. A non-releasable restrictor for awning and casement windows, for those with safety and security in mind. It only allows the window to open 100 mm, so a child cannot climb out of an upstairs window and an intruder cannot climb in.
  • Security Stay. Designed for projected top-hung and projected side-hung windows, the security stay is adjustable and limits the sash opening to 100 mm. Release it with the key and the window opens fully for cleaning.

Restrictor stays are for awning and casement windows only; sliding windows and doors do not have them.

Locks for Doors

There are single, double and four-point lock options available. We use two-point locking as standard as an extra security measure: turning the handle throws bolts at two points along the edge of the door, so the door is pulled tight to the frame along its whole height rather than at the latch alone. For entrance doors the Yale Apex lever set comes with a two-point or a four-point lock, a proven multipoint locking solution for a front door.

Other important considerations are how the door is keyed:

  • Key both sides (key - key), so the door is locked from inside as well as out. Keep a key by the door for an emergency.
  • Key outside, turn knob inside (key - turn), the usual choice for a front door.
  • No key outside, turn knob inside only, for a door that is only ever locked from within.

Smart Locks

For keyless entry on an entrance door we fit three proven options, pictured below. The Yale Assure is a smart deadbolt with app control, auto-unlock and integration options, paired with a sleek pull handle. The Yale SYDM3109 lets you access your home the way that works best for you, with a PIN code or an RFID card or tag for simple, convenient entry. The Sylvan SL41E electronic smart lock gives freedom, flexibility and security with a digital keypad. Yale's New Zealand product pages carry the full specifications.

Hardware Colours

All hardware comes in black or colour matched to your frames. Black reads as a deliberate accent on a lighter frame; colour matched, the handle all but disappears into the joinery.

Hardware Questions

Can my new doors be keyed alike to my existing locks?

Yes, by a locksmith. We do not offer that service ourselves. On a new order, though, all the locks can come keyed alike, so one key opens every door, or keyed differently if required.

What colours does the hardware come in?

Black, or colour matched to your frames. It is the same OMEGA Edge3 hardware either way; only the finish changes.

Can hardware be replaced later?

Yes. Stays, handles, rollers and locks are all serviceable parts, and we carry them for the systems we make. Ring us with a photo of the part.

Do the stays need any maintenance?

A wipe when you wash the joinery and an occasional light lubricant on the pivots. The maintenance guide has the routine.
